Ah winter, I know not everyone is a fan, but there is something particularly cosy and enjoyable about her reign, early morning jogs in the mist and toasty fires at night. Last night I played at an amazing community gathering in Albury, a winter solstice event with a focus on supporting those affected by suicide. On the coldest and shortest day of the year, the rain did not cease in it’s presence, but the people still gathered, with deep compassion and vulnerability and strength of the human spirit, a sea of multi-coloured umbrellas stoody by fire barrels.
After a busy and fruitful time of touring and releasing our new album “Southern Light” The Wheels and I are taking a little breather over Winter before we hit the road again in spring. October will see us taking to the country roads, with a sweet run of regional Victorian shows- including Red Hill, Warnambool, Alexandra, Castlemaine and more. Keep your eye on this space over the coming months as we announce festivals and our spring/summer tour dates. In the meantime I have a number of solo/duo shows coming up, head on over to the shows tab for more details.

Hey there lovely gang,
Sal here. Our new album ‘SOUTHERN LIGHT’ is finished and nearly ready to share. We will be officially releasing ‘SOUTHERN LIGHT’ out into the ether, car stereos and record players on the 3RD FEB 2016. We had a gorgeous time making the album with close friend SHANE O’MARA at yikesvilles studios in Melbourne. As an Independent band we have self-funded this album and all our previous albums and tours, but as some of you probably know – releasing and touring a large band can sometimes be a challenging thing financially, so we have decided to run a short little crowdfunding campaign on KICKSTARTER to help us cover some of the big costs associated with the upcoming release and tour. On the Kickstarter site you can pre-order our new album and recieve it 2 weeks before it’s official release, which is really only a month away, you can also get rewards like a private yoga/medititation session with our beautiful Mumma Jillian, Bushdances, Kimber recordings from the 80’s and so on.

We will be taking our new album ‘SOUTHERN LIGHT’ right around Australia during 2016, starting with our SOUTHERN SUMMER HALLS TOUR, a run of shows in halls and unique venues in RURAL VIC. We love and understand the importance of touring rural Australia and can’t wait to rock out in places such as BUANGOR and OXLEY and of course near BUFFY and my home town when we play the TALLANGATTA VALLEY HALL. Joining us on our SOUTHERN SUMMER HALLS tour will be close friend and folk singer sweetheart ‘JOHN FLANAGAN’. John will be releasing his new album ‘Another Way to Where You Are Going’ in Feb, so we have decided to hit the road together. I am a bit in love with John’s new album, a total elixir for the aches and pains, full of hope and light, I can’t think of a better artist to release our new album alongside. John and I will be touring together thru the first half of 2016, from Vic to WA, a mix of FULL BAND and cut back intimate house concert shows. Click on the shows tab for links to tickets etc and if you would like us to come to your town during the year -drop me a line on salkimber@gmail.com or our booker cat@thebookingstable.com. Sal Kimber & the Rollin Wheel are skilled purveyors of smooth hook-laden roots-infused pop rock that slides effortlessly into the listenerâs memory bank. .. the ideal accompaniment to endless sun-drenched summer days. **** Â – Graham Blackley, Beat
Sal Kimber & the Rollin’ Wheel are a band steeped in talent, personality and connection. Described by Rolling Stone as âAustraliana Alt County at itâs finestâ Salâs authentic and warm stage presence, storytelling and antipodean vocals, along with the captivating musicianship of her close-knit band has seen the five piece win over loyal audiences all over Australia. With over eight years of consistent regional and urban touring, countless festivals and three studio albums behind them, Sal and The âWheel create soulful, playful and powerful live shows that inspire both the tapping of toes and the tugging of heartstrings. “Kimber’s raw and ethereal antipodean register was simply stunning to beholdâ Â – TheMusic.com.au
Born and bred in the mountain valleys of Victoria, Kimberâs songwriting is stitched with tales of rivers, wild horses, flood, fire and the strength and vulnerability of the human spirit. Salâs third album “Southern Lightâ, released in early 2016, featuring the talented Rollinâ Wheel and captured by award winning producer Shane OâMara, is an expansive, soulful route through country, folk, rock and pop. Picking up accolades, rave reviews, feature album slots across the country and high-rotation on ABC and Community radio, âSouthern Lightâ reached number 2 on the Australian Itunes Singer Songwriter charts and was the best selling Australian roots/indie album at Melbourneâs much loved Basement Discs store during March/April 2016.
On banjo, guitars and vocals, Sal performs solo, duo, trio but most comfortably and most frequently with her talented band âThe Rollin Wheelâ. Sal has been a guest on SBS TV show Rockwiz, has supported the likes of Kasey Chambers and The Waifs, and amongst things is a Bushdance caller. With a charismatic and fun style of calling, Sal can be found teaching the heel and toe in halls all around remote and urban Australia
âSal was a revelation… Kimber’s voice left the concert hall breathless on original tracks âHell and Highwater’ and âBurrawangâ ” Â – Harvey Rae, The West Australian
We have just released a new song, Hell and Highwater, the second single from our forthcoming album. The song shares stories of human resilience and strength, as experienced thru fire and flood. Produced by the talented Mr Omara at yikesville studios, Hell and Highwater features the sweet musicianship of D.A CALF and Chris Parkinson (of the Yearlings) on guitars, Tully Sumner on golden harmonies, Richie Rose on the da bass and our Buffy Beth Kimber on keys and Catty Leahy on Drums.

We will be playing two single launches in Victoria, one in Melbourne city at the Toff in Town Sat 21st Nov and one in gorgeous North East Vic at The Beechworth Town Hall Sun 22nd Nov.
You can also catch us at a few festivals over the coming months, including the Fleurieu Folk Festival (SA), Happy Wanderer Festival (VIC) and the Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival (VIC).
And lastly, here is a little pic from my adventures out West with the gorgeous Waifs clan in September. I had an absolute ball, travelling red dirt soil with some of my fav Aus musicians, we covered 4000 miles from Kalgoorlie to Broome, snorkelled at Coral Bay, rode bareback at Cosey Corner, played the stunning Perth Concert Hall with an audience of 1600 people and penned songs about Chiko Rolls.
Big love and adventure to you all
Sal x
