New album on the way

I have really loved the journey of pulling the new album together. We first started tracking song ideas over 18 months ago, and have dipped in and out of the studio since. A relaxed, open, productive process, exploring new sounds and approaches to song writing and production, with @isaacbarter on the engineering wheel.
Super looking fwd to sharing these songs with you all in 2023 🌊 🌈🎙✍️🪕🎸

Recording New Album

Hi there lovely crew, just a quick update to let you know that we have started the ball rolling on our new album. It has been some moons between album releases and being back in the studio has felt like a real adventure. It sounds a little cliche, but I genuinely am looking forward to sharing these new songs and new sounds with you all soon. At the moment it is looking like we will release the new album in the new year, as our recording process has been delayed with the ever evolving covid journey but hopefully we will be out touring all around Australia during 2022 with new album in hand and seeing some of your lovely faces.

Big love, Sal x

Bio

Sal Kimber & the Rollin Wheel are skilled purveyors of smooth hook-laden roots-infused pop rock that slides effortlessly into the listener’s memory bank. .. the ideal accompaniment to endless sun-drenched summer days. ****  – Graham Blackley, Beat

Sal Kimber & the Rollin’ Wheel are a band steeped in talent, personality and connection. Described by Rolling Stone as ‘Australiana Alt County at it’s finest’ Sal’s authentic and warm stage presence, storytelling and antipodean vocals, along with the captivating musicianship of her close-knit band has seen the five piece win over loyal audiences all over Australia. With over eight years of consistent regional and urban touring, countless festivals and three studio albums behind them, Sal and The ‘Wheel create soulful, playful and powerful live shows that inspire both the tapping of toes and the tugging of heartstrings. “Kimber’s raw and ethereal antipodean register was simply stunning to behold”   TheMusic.com.au

Born and bred in the mountain valleys of Victoria, Kimber’s songwriting is stitched with tales of rivers, wild horses, flood, fire and the strength and vulnerability of the human spirit. Sal’s third album “Southern Light”, released in early 2016, featuring the talented Rollin’ Wheel and captured by award winning producer Shane O’Mara, is an expansive, soulful route through country, folk, rock and pop. Picking up accolades, rave reviews, feature album slots across the country and high-rotation on ABC and Community radio, “Southern Light” reached number 2 on the Australian Itunes Singer Songwriter charts and was the best selling Australian roots/indie album at Melbourne’s much loved Basement Discs store during March/April 2016.

On banjo, guitars and vocals, Sal performs solo, duo, trio but most comfortably and most frequently with her talented band ‘The Rollin Wheel’. Sal has been a guest on SBS TV show Rockwiz, has supported the likes of Kasey Chambers and The Waifs, and amongst things is a Bushdance caller. With a charismatic and fun style of calling, Sal can be found teaching the heel and toe in halls all around remote and urban Australia

“Sal was a revelation… Kimber’s voice left the concert hall breathless on original tracks ‘Hell and Highwater’ and ‘Burrawang’ ”  – Harvey Rae, The West Australian

Biography

“the most refreshing, exciting and frighteningly talented artist I’ve seen in some years”
Greg Champion, ABC

“Australia’s next queen of Country Soul”
Rolling Stone

“Whenever we play her music on ABC radio, it garners an instant response: ‘Who was that singer?'”
Richard Glover, ABC Sydney

Based in country Victoria, Kimber has been quietly stealing hearts on Australia’s live music scene for the past eight years. It was in 2008 that she really found her niche by forming alt-country band Sal Kimber & The Rollin’ Wheel (with older sister Beth Kimber on keys and accordian, and long time friend Cat Leahy on drums). With a familiar, warm and expressive voice – sometimes yearning, sometimes sensual, always believable, Sal and her band were named by Rolling Stone Magazine as ‘Australiana alt-country at its finest’.

With consistent rural and national touring, Sal Kimber and the Rollin’ Wheel released their highly anticipated self-titled album in 2011, to warm acclaim. Produced by award winning producer Shane Omara’, the album received national and international radio play, featured on shows such as Packed to the Rafters, and amongst dongs received Rhythms Magazines ‘Readers choice album of the year’.

Originally hailing from the mountain valleys of rural Victoria, Sal Kimber grew up in a musical family, and discovered her passion for songwriting at an early age. Her unique style has captured a strong following and garnered awards including the Victorian Female Vocalist of the Year Award at the Victorian ∓ National Country Music Awards (2010) and the Apra Song of the Year at the Victoria ∓ National Country Music Awards (2012).

Inspiring both the tapping of toes and the tugging of heartsrings, Sal performs solo, duo and trio, but most comfortably and most frequnetly with her talented five piece band ‘The Rollin Wheel’. Most recently Sal has been a guest on SBS TV show Rockwiz, toured Canada and Nashville, and has supported the likes of Kasey Chambers and The Waifs.

Sal and her Wheels released their first single off their upcoming new album in June 2015, ‘Stumble in the Dark’, a haunting and authentic indie folk offering, the band sets to release their long anticipated full album in early 2016.
